Probability & Complex Systems Research Group

ICMC-USP / DEs-UFSCar • Sao Carlos • SP • Brazil

Welcome!

The Probability and Complex Systems research group is composed by researchers and students of the two public universities located in São Carlos, São Paulo state, Brazil. Namely, the Department of Statistics of the Federal University of São Carlos and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics of the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, University of São Paulo at São Carlos.

Our general research interests lie in the fields of probability theory, complex systems, their interactions and applications. Current topics under investigation include e.g. questions concerning to the asymptotic behavior and phase transitions in special stochastic processes and random structures, mathematical and computational modeling of complex systems, and rigorous results in mathematical physics (classical statistical mechanics and euclidean quantum field theory).

We have an extended network of collaborators, with whom we often exchange visits in order to develop our projects. Also, as a frequent local activity, we organize the Probability and Complex Systems Seminars in São Carlos. Moreover, we promote other events in the area and take part in the organization of important and more specialized workshops and schools. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research interests, we supervise Ph.D., Master and Undergraduate programs in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences and Physics both at ICMC-USP and at UFSCar, besides collaborating with the graduate programs in other institutions.
